Search for the Guilty

By L. Oliver Duffy

On the road to consciousness we as individuals find ourselves looking at our reality and asking why things are the way they seem to be. The answers come slowly at times and more quickly at other times. One thing is consistent in these answers and that is that we begin to realize that the world we live in is a result of our own thoughts, attitudes, beliefs and intentions.

It is often difficult to directly connect a single thought with a resulting awareness but on occasion we are blessed with what I call instant karma. This is when we think a strong thought about someone or something and then immediately we experience some action that allows us the opportunity to make the connection. Such may be the bumping of our head (getting ahead of ourselves) or perhaps cutting our finger while working with a knife and while feeling anger towards someone else's actions. We also may be blessed with receiving a phone call from someone offering us what we may have just prayed for.

But what about things that happen to us when we are not currently involved in such thoughts? This is what I call general karma, results from a higher level of thought, those connected with attitude and intent among others. These tend to be displaced in time when compared to when the general thoughts were sent out into the ethers. Many believe that the actions as far back as past lives eventually precipitate or come back to us in our current incarnation.

Then there is group karma. We are always part of some group, clan, tribe, country or planet. When we support the actions of our group either through direct participation or through complacency, we become subject to the karma of the whole group.

Regardless of the type of karma we find ourselves dealing with we must remember that we project onto our own screen the reality that we perceive. It does no constructive good to be angry at the picture we see and attempt to change it by hurtling insults, bottles or bombs at the screen. What we need to do is gain control of the projector, which is of course our own inner self. We must remember that it is our movie, our dream, however intense.

We currently find ourselves at a crossroads. The volume has been turned up so we can no longer ignore the reality that we are currently focused upon. We are running out of time. We must as individuals discipline ourselves and focus our thoughts on love. Remember that everyone in our dreams is just another aspect of ourselves. If you truly love yourself then you love everyone and if you love everyone then you love yourself.

Regardless of whom you think is responsible for recent events and why such actions were taken, they are a part of us and this is our dream. It therefore is important to focus on love and prayer at this time. Pray for our leaders not to create more painful karma by seeking retribution. To paraphrase Gandhi, an eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind.

This I know is not a popular position to take at this time but I for one am not running in a popularity contest. We must forgive. Most of all we must forgive ourselves for having dreamt this dream. It is now time to move from a place of karma to one of grace. We must rise to the occasion.

In the words of song writers Jim Wilson and Robbie Robertson

From the album: "The Native Americans"

The song: "Ghost Dance"

Crow has brought the message

To the children of the sun

For the return of the buffalo

And for a better day to come

You can kill my body

You can damn my soul

For not believing in your god

And some world down below

You don't stand a chance against my prayers

You don’t stand a chance against my love

They have outlawed the Ghost Dance

But we shall live again, we shall live again
